China today saw a big game (31) for the third game of the semifinal of its national championship. If favoritism already pointed to Guangdong Evergrande’s victory over Shanghai Ubey, the surprise came. Shanghai beat their rival by 3 sets to 1 (25/15, 20/25, 29/27 and 25/21) , eliminated Guangdong and qualified in the final against Tianjin.
Guangdong’s favoritism was preceded by history: Louisa Lippmann , starting and top scorer of the championship, is with Germany. And in the second game of the semifinal, even with Lippmann, Shanghai were defeated 3-1.
But today was another foreign day: the American Jordan Larson . The tip left the court as the highest scorer of the game with 22 points (48%). It was her biggest responsibility for definition today, and Larson received almost twice as many balls as the opposite Lei Zhang .
Larson also played a decisive role in the fourth set when he commanded the turn of his losing team by 20-16. The good entry of Jie Yang also contributed to the victory on the set. Shanghai also had a great distribution from selectable setter Yuqian Bian, as well as a show in defense of Libyan Weiyi Wang .
Guangdong fluctuated a lot and had an inefficient attack from its top players. Hunting at the reception, Dobriana Rabadzhieva scored 14 (30%) and opposing passer Yao Li scored 17 (39%). But the performance fell short of Tatiana Kosheleva , who does not pass and, despite having scored 21 times, only succeeded in 38% of the balls received.
The win puts Shanghai in direct contention against absolutely favorite Tianjin, by names like Zhu, Li and Hooker. The games start on the next 7th.
